How to choose the right second-hand shoes
Buying a pair of vintage shoes is a bit like falling in love: a crush, a compatibility, and a “I feel good about this”.
But a few good habits can make all the difference between a beautiful story and a wardrobe flop. Here's our guide to choosing (and cherishing) your next pair.
1. Check the general condition
At Parisienne Vintage, all our shoes are carefully inspected, but if you're buying elsewhere: check the sole, the heel, and the lining. Light scratches are normal, but cracked leather or a very thin sole is less so.
2. Favor high-quality materials
Leather, suede, satin… Beautiful materials age well and can be repaired. Avoid plastics or imitations that don't stand the test of time.
3. Find your shoe size house by house
Manolo runs small, Dior sometimes large, Prada varies… We’ve even prepared a size guide to help you avoid any unpleasant surprises.
4. Don't be afraid of restoration
A worn heel? A sole that needs repairing? These are easy details to fix if the shoe is rare or exceptional. Especially if, like us, you have a good cobbler on hand!
5. Listen to your heart (and your style)
A pair you've never seen anywhere else, but that calls to you…? That's probably a good sign. Let your style speak for itself, not just the trend.
All our shoes are restored by professionals and authenticated before being put online.
